Belgium will strengthening ties with Kurdistan

Brussels / Erbil, 9 June 2015 - Middle East Diplomatic (MED) - After visiting the Kurdistan Region in Tuesday, the Belgian Foreign Minister and Deputy PM Didier Reynders, praised the courage and bravery of the Kurdish military forces Peshmerga in war against isis criminals and he promised more military and humanitarian support. Mr. Reynders said also that Belguim will strengthening its ties with Kurdistan.

Belgium Deputy PM was welcomed by Kurdistan Region’s Foreign Relations Minister Falah Mustafa and the Head of KRG Mission to EU, Delaver Ajgey and had also meeting with Prime minister Nechirvan Barzani.  

In a joint press conference in Kurdish capital city in Erbil, Mr. Reynders told that “its important the world knows about the Peshmerga’s courage and it’s even more important that the world supports Kurdistan’s forces in the fight against IS”.

Belgium FM Reynders gave also sign that his government would open an honorary consulate in Kurdish capital Erbil as a first step toward strengthening ties.

Regarding the around 2 million Iraqi and Syrian refuges, the Mr. Reynders thanked the Kurdistan government to providing a safe haven: “The Kurdistan Region has provided every assistance to refugees without differentiating along religious or ethnic lines. We wish to continue out support to Kurdistan once the war ends, especially by investing in the region and strengthening trade relations between the Kurdistan Region and Belgium”.

Commenting for MED Diplomatic from Erbil, Delaver Ajgey, Head of KRG Mission to EU, told that “Deputy PM Reynders visit to Kurdistan was a important step and good opportunity for our nations to develop our bilateral relations in many fields. We welcome the opening of Belgium consulate and ready to give the necessary assistance and opportunities for strengthen our political, economical, military, humanitarian and trade ties with Belgium”.
